Because more and more people realize that big cars with big petrol engines are bad for the environment, there are many alternative ways of the transportation. The good side is that all of them are green. But even more important is the future of public transport. As you already know, busses, taxies and similar vehicles cause a lot of pollution. Maybe the solution will come from Induct Technology and the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne.
Engineers from Switzerland developed a concept called Navia. This vehicle looks more on a bus than on a car, but it is treated as the big taxi. Because it has a body with open top, it can be used only during warm months. It is electric and it is very comfortable. The most interesting fact about Navia is its autonomous navigation system. Simply said, this vehicle doesn’t require a driver. In order to achieve this, Navia uses; GPS, a laser range filter, regular sensors and sensors that monitor acceleration and rotation around all axes (3 axes). Thanks to them, Navia knows distance traveled and data on axes movement. The top speed is only 20 km/h, but it has 8 seats.
This is probably the future of public transport. Electric, functional and hi-tech vehicles. Because Navia doesn’t have a driver, this means it is much safer. Drivers can be tired or sleepy, but a computer is always 100% functional. Of course, in order to accomplish all of these features, engineers will need more time and a lot of research. After all, it isn’t easy to make a vehicle that is driven by a computer in the large cities.
